Plans and Pricing, Checked October 2026

We read both vendors' pricing pages on October 17, 2026. The two meter usage differently: Zapier bills per task (each successful action step), while n8n bills per execution (one full workflow run, however many steps it has). That difference matters more than the headline price once your workflows have several steps.

How to read this. A five-step workflow that runs 1,000 times a month uses about 5,000 Zapier tasks but only 1,000 n8n executions, so n8n's entry tiers stretch further on multi-step automations. Zapier's advantage is the setup time: its app library and linear editor are friendlier to non-technical teams, and there is nothing to host. n8n's self-hosted route is cheapest on paper but moves server upkeep, updates and backups onto you.

What this is based on. Plan names, prices and limits come from Zapier's and n8n's own pricing pages as of October 17, 2026; the Zapier 10,000-task figure is a third-party report (Toolradar, October 16, 2026) and the n8n monthly (non-annual) prices were not shown on the page we read. We did not build and run the same workflow on both platforms for this update, so the ease-of-use comments reflect vendor documentation and common user reports rather than our own benchmark.

Pricing Models

Zapier operates on a traditional SaaS subscription model where costs are primarily driven by the number of successful "Tasks" executed each month. n8n offers a "fair-code" model; while they have a managed cloud version, the primary value is the free self-hosted version, allowing you to run millions of workflows for the cost of a small server instance.

"Zapier is the undisputed king of beginner-friendly automation, but n8n is the winner for technical users seeking total control."

Flexibility & Logic

n8n is significantly more flexible than Zapier for complex logic. You can build advanced branching, loops, and custom JavaScript functions directly within any node. Zapier is convenient, but its linear builder mapping can feel restrictive for high-volume operations.

The Final Verdict

Winner for Control: n8n.io

Choose Zapier if speed of setup is your only priority. Choose n8n if you are a developer or have the technical capacity to build sustainable, high-volume operations with total data control.

Frequently Asked Questions

The self-hosted Community Edition of n8n is free software, so you can run large volumes of workflows for the cost of a small server, which the page frames as its core value. n8n also offers a paid managed cloud version if you would rather not self-host. Zapier, by contrast, is cloud-only and billed on a task-based subscription.
